Board of Directors

The Association of Litigation Funders is run by a board of five directors, three of whom were members of the working party of the Civil Justice Council that produced the Code of Conduct for Litigation Funders. All of our directors are highly experienced in the field of litigation funding.

Susan Dunn

Susan co-founded Harbour Litigation Funding Ltd, of which she is head of litigation funding. An English solicitor, she qualified at Wragge & Co and went on to spend her legal career specialising in litigation. Susan moved into litigation funding more than a decade ago, and headed up IM Litigation Funding before launching Harbour. Susan has been a director of the Association of Litigation Funders since 2011, and was appointed Chair in September 2019.

Robert Rothkopf

Robert is founder and managing partner of Balance Legal Capital LLP. Prior to starting Balance, Robert was a litigator in the International Dispute Resolution and Arbitration Group of Herbert Smith Freehills London and New York, where he advised multi-national companies on commercial and investment disputes. Robert also spent time in-house as a member of BP’s international dispute resolution team in London. Robert joined the board of the Association of Litigation Funders in 2019.

Neil Purslow

Neil is co-founder and chief investment officer at Therium Capital Management Limited. He was previously litigation counsel in London for Marsh & McLennan Companies, and has in the past practised as a solicitor in the litigation departments at both Reed Smith and Withers in London. Neil joined the board of the Association of Litigation Funders in 2013.

Christopher Bogart

Christopher Bogart co-founded Burford Capital and serves as Chief Executive Officer. He previously held numerous senior executive positions with Time Warner, including Executive Vice President & General Counsel of Time Warner Inc. and Chief Executive Officer of Time Warner Cable Ventures and as Chief Executive Officer of Time Warner Entertainment Ventures. He came to Time Warner from Cravath, Swaine & Moore, where he was a litigator representing companies such as IBM, GE and Time Warner. Christopher has been a director of the Association of Litigation Funders since 2016.

Jonathan Barnes

Jonathan’s family business was cotton spinning in the north-west, but he started his career in the law. He was a partner in two City law firms before joining Woodsford Consulting – long-standing client Yves Bonavero’s family office. In 2007/8 Jonathan led the successful sale of Europa Park – Central Europe’s premier single location logistics and distribution centre, against the backdrop of a deepening credit crunch. Jonathan is now the Chief Operating Officer of Woodsford Litigation Funding – having helped start the business in 2010 and seen it develop and mature, along with the sector, over the last six years. Jonathan has been a director of the Association of Litigation Funders since 2016.
